Covert Narcissism is often linked to the Jezebel Spirit mentioned by Jesus Christ in the Book of Revelation (Rev. 2:20). This notion might be frequently discussed by a pastor, but the Jezebel-Covert Narcissist connection is also discussed in many scientific settings. Survivors often attribute part of their recovery to certain biblical passages, and/or certain inspirational quotes. The film delves into uncanny profile similarities found in ancient scriptures & conventional psychology data.
The profile of a covert narcissist's activities parallel several passages found in the King James Bible. Jesus Christ issued a warning about the Jezebel spirit in Revelation 2:20, which begins, "Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel ..." It should be noted that Jezebel is one of a couple demons mentioned by name in the very book that was meant for the last days; Revelation. Abaddon - aka Apollyon - is also referenced in Revelation 9:11.
Whether looking through the lens of modern psychology or the lens of God's word, both agree the activities of the Jezebel Spirit are summarized well in Proverbs 6:16-19. The passage below is from the English Standard Version (ESV) of the Bible.
"There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to Him:
haughty eyes,
a lying tongue,
and hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked schemes,
feet that make haste to run to evil,
a false witness who breathers out lies,
and one who sows discord among brothers."
This type of demon often targets men or women who have a powerful voice for God's message. They work to undermine ministers, pastors & anyone leading others to the truth of the spiritual world around us. They can cause strife in any group of people.
The Covert Narcissist acts as the mastermind, while typically convincing a flying monkey (i.e. proxy) to carry out the attacks; hence the term "covert". Most of the damage comes in the form of rumors and gossip based on lies originating from the Covert Narcissist. The Covert Narc & Flying Monkey tandem often devise schemes to get the target in trouble with the law, using false allegations, false police reports along with omission of evidence that would exonerate the target. This maneuver was attempted and is described in detail in the UNSANE story.
In the movie, the target of the covert abuse was able to successfully turn the tables on his attackers and show the police, prosecutors and the court how they'd been manipulated while trying to "weaponize the courts." This is a serious crime in many U.S. States that has earned many covert narcissists (and their flying monkeys) lengthy prison sentences.
Whether the laws of your state recognize this activity for the crime that it is or not, the ramifications pale in comparison to God's opinion of this behavior. It would seem God is capable of hating; at least, those who work against His messengers. God considers it an abomination, which should alarm anyone who participates in gossip and rumors, even if it's as a silent bystander who knows better.
In places where it's still legal to openly discuss the Bible, it's widely assumed the keys to victory in spiritual combat against the Jezebel-type spirit and its brethren can be found in the Book of Ephesians. For something that can rock someone's life in such an overpowering & unconventional way, many find answers in (seemingly) unconventional sources.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
When Jehu came to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it. And she painted her eyes and adorned her head and looked out of the window.
And when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the Lord, Obadiah took a hundred prophets and hid them by fifties in a cave and fed them with bread and water.)
But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.
And when Joram saw Jehu, he said, “Is it peace, Jehu?” He answered, “What peace can there be, so long as the whorings and the sorceries of your mother Jezebel are so many?”
And as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, he took for his wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Sidonians, and went and served Baal and worshiped him.
There was none who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord like Ahab, whom Jezebel his wife incited.
And you shall strike down the house of Ahab your master, so that I may avenge on Jezebel the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord.
Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and how he had killed all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So may the gods do to me and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by this time tomorrow.” Then he was afraid, and he arose and ran for his life and came to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.” And he lay down and slept under a broom tree. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, “Arise and eat.” ...
